How We Safely Integrate VR Tech in Camp
We are excited to begin integrating VR into our camp experiences. Extended reality software is already being used in K-12 education for everything from Language Arts to Geography to Computer Programming.
At Champion, we are using virtual and augmented reality to enhance many of our classes. We understand that parents have their concerns, which we have considered. We have decided that with monitoring, virtual and augmented reality can be beneficial to education. Not only can it assist our visual and tactile learners, it's also a fresh, fun way to get children engaged.
Currently, there are only a handful of studies that have monitored the impact of virtual reality on child development. Based on the information that we have found, we have chosen to use head-motion-controlled VR for our younger students. We will also be limiting their time with the glasses and times will be spread out over the class. A class with a twenty-minute time with the glasses, for example, would have their total time spread out in four or five-minute increments, to enhance the lesson of the class.
All VR glasses will be sanitized after and before each use by camp staffs. Please ask for a medical provider for advices if you have any medical concerns over your children using the VR glasses, as many people report headaches, eye strain, dizziness and nausea after using the headsets. To reduce the risk of possible effects taken place, we will limit the time of use, and carefully curated the content and intensity, using the age-specific headsets. We will constantly monitor students' emotions when using the headsets. We also ensure the students' personal privacy being protected on the virtual world.
In this way, we are quite confident to keep the VR tech educational; inspiring students to create instead of consuming.
Please feel free to contact us if you have questions concerning about the VR tech at Champion. We are eager to know how you think about this new technology.
